MANCHESTER UNITED WON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!
I guess the message should come thru to anyone loud and clear.
There is little to separate the top two teams in their domestic league in this all England Champions League final this morning, with both Man U and Chelsea drawing 1-1 at 120 min of soccer and the winner has to be determined via the most cruelest way, by penalty kicks.
I'm glad that the team that i support, man utd, won. Though they were excellent in the first half, but were overshadowed by the ever resilient Chelsea thereafter, i must congratulate Fergie's new team of heroes for their nerves during the penalty shootout. I guess they deserve to win the champions league, as they've been the most consistent and exciting team throughout the season and they always bounced back immediately from a defeat. No other teams can be compared to them this season, with their top scorer Christiano Ronaldo notching 42 goals in an extraordinary season. He was lucky that his team eventually won the penalty shootout or his penalty miss would have cost his team the trophy dearly and made him the biggest villian. Ironically, he was the one that drew first blood for man utd by heading in the 1st goal in the 26th min, giving man utd the lead. How Alex Ferguson must have savour his 2nd European trophy in his 22 years of career, as he hailed his current crop of Man Utd players as the best he had ever coached, even better than the group that won the Treble in 1999.
Cruelty is the only word that could describe the feelings John Terry, Frank Lampard and Avram Grant feels. Terry literally slipped up and missed the penalty that could have handed Chelsea their first ever Champs league trophy. Frank Lampard didn't get to win the trophy to erase any sorrow that might still linger in him weeks after his mom passed away. And Grant most probably will lose his job at coaching following this defeat that resulted in the team being trophyless this season.
This match also marks the 759th appearance of veteran Ryan Giggs, who overtook Sir Bobby Charlton to become the player who turned up the most number of times for Man U. He was also the one that makes the final penalty kick that ensures Man U won the final. The future looks bright for Man U with Anderson, Nani also converting their spot kicks with plenty of nerve even though they knew they would hand Chelsea the trophy if they missed. This match was definitely a fitting tribute to the Busby Babes, who died 50 years ago in the munich disaster.
Good work Man U and hope u will go for greater heights in the future!
