At the esplanade--Theatres at the bay!
Tt's the key topic of 2dae! (too bad i'll miss the last episode of ai qing ling du C)
Went wif ys,sc,dick,yun,jojo,wz,jh,jp,yj,nigel and a dozen of rv dance juniors(basically alot of em r in njcd). Went there straight fr sch..and ate at subway in raffles city shoppin centre.
Surprise to noe tt swissotel is oso in RCSC...izzit the location of our j2 grad nite?
Walked to esplanade via city link mall..and waited for sumtym b4 the show starts!!
1st half was crap..some unconventional and unorthodox cultural dances,and efforts fr TJC modern dance club & SADC Alumni..like "batteries not included". The only one tt deserved an applause is the dance b4 the interval "On the house"...where the hiphop by e alumni is realli PRO..Sorry to sae..but NJWD hiphop is easily PWNed by them..the hynoptic phrase sung"Zangzeegeezeegee Zazaangzeegeeezeegee Zeegeezeegee Zazangzeegeezeegee Ladies!" and the slick hiphop moves practically put us into a trance..
The real show starts after the interval..and it's realli awesome!
"Made in Sin" was the 1st dance after 2nd half..well u cnt realli call it a dance..but it was so hilarious to see how their choreographer Zaki cld come up wif a dance tt epics Singapore...in a very Singaporean way!! The song is damn funny..alot of lyrics is very typical of the way Singaporean talks..like "Why u so liddat?"
And there were tourists+tour guide,cleaners,students,air stewardesses and models wearing the 4 tradtional races' costumes..Damn Cool Lah! ahaha..
"Scarlet Fever" was a dance tt walked out of "perhaps.love" (aka Ru2 Guo3. Ai4) according to my cdance frenz who have watched the show. But i tink itz damn nice lah. It isnt easy to dance in cheongsams lah. And the dancers keep repeatin the words in the song"Ai4,mei2 you3. Hen4,mei2 you4.......Qing2, bu4 yao4"..it really gives u a...very special feeling tt is indescribable.
"Human Behaviour" by the NUS Dance Ensemble was SHOCKING!!
It was a dance tt epics the voices of the small workers in a big company. Wearing a suit for work initially..the dancers slowly took off their clothing till they have only their undergarments left. The dance is really superb, esp their choreographer Zaini...who danced wif them . His spins were realli sharp, and his moves were executed beautifully..thou his age-old fats are seemingly visible. It was somehow coincidental tt Zaini looks suspiciously lyk a slightly younger Michael Tay..Now i really bliff tt he was once a dancer and can really imagine how it's lyk for him to dance!
"Purged Sanctity" choreographed by my fren and once my dance partner for syf in RV,jilyn, was widely regarded by my frenz as an excellent dance piece. It's abt how a gal looks 4ward to her marriage wif the man tt she lyks..(or in fact many gals..coz there are alot of dancers). Of coz, the main lead is jil herself. Simple but beautiful are two words for this dance. And the pardegal(partner dance in french) by jil is so flawless..all the ju3(carries) are very very beautiful..(sth which me and my cd frenz sux at). And i muz sae it's realli touching to see the couple(s) 2gether in the end...
The last dance "Petach-Tikva" is unexpectedly a dance by the teachers in SAJC!
Althou their skills are obviously nt as gd as the dancers themselves, the torn and tattered clothes, their theme of ppl struggling to find freedom, and their ideas for the dance really surprised me...like when they gathered in the middle and uniformly throw their hands forward..and their ending post..where all of them crawled 2wards a side of the stage wif a female teacher standin on another male, trying to reach for the heavens..the sign of freedom.
I'd nv expect them to come up wif such ideas..and i dun tink the njc teachers can be as pro as them.
the finale finally came..wif everyone including Zaki, their main choreographer, presenting a short solo dance to the audience. Very majestic..very very well done..perhaps i shld sae..twice as gd as aristal. (but last yr's rapture is even better..coz they invited this outside break dance grp)
And when i saw familiar faces lyk jilyn and wanting(ex rv dance vp,my senior)..i had a sense of affinity to the dances..and they seem to get betta every year..esp jil..she shld become a very pro dancer-cum-choreographer in the future..maybe even helping sulao! Ahah..
Again..Me and my frenz juz cheong outta esplanade at god lyk speed..seeing xiu,peck,shun,pris on the way..and saw mengbing too! Wah..ur pink glasses veh AA leh..
Did i 4get to mention abt how beautiful the esplande is? The inner structure of the theatre is veh beautiful..and looks veh grand. Alot of lame names for the seats..lyk stalls for centre row..and other awkward names i 4got. Nvm,there's owaes chance 2 go back & chk again.(Coz i rmb gg in2 tt same theatre rm b4 last tym..mayb in sec2/3,juz tt i was sitting in the upper row) Wonder did NJ band performed on tt same theatre Rm?
And yah..we lyk the toilet..esp wif tt automatic movement detecting toilet paper machine.
All and all...it was a great nite..and probably the very last tym i watch a perf b4 A levels..
