Went to watch Horizon Dance Troupe 5th Anninversary Performance..Super Zai la..it's a mixture of chinese and contemporary dances..But i think the chinese theme is more superior..
Especially the part when all the guys came out to do Xuan Zi* (A dance technique..that throws the whole body into the air to do a lateral 180 degree swing..something like that..)..Awesome man..
Mr Soh's dance is very abstract..keep seeing the calligraphy word "yong" (forever)..what does it mean?
I like "light of the dawn"..the title itself oredi gave me some hopes in life..haha..
Prof Leong is there!! As a guest choreographer..I must say the opening dance choreograped by him is really really good..about "du shi niang". The story/dance depicts a prostitute in ancient China..who wanted to marry this scholar coz she loved him deeply..However, on the night of the marriage, the scholar decided not to marry her anymore..this infuriates the prostitute..who is looking for "zhen ai" (true love) and she finally carried her treasure chest and jumped off the boat into the river...(The story can be found in the book "San1 Yan2 Er4 Pai1"...
Well..San yan er pai did remind me of a story telling competition i participated in sch..but it was a different story : "Su xiao mei san kao xin lang". I juz noe i'm supposed to act as this character who wanted to marry su xiao mei (su dong po sister) but i flopped the role coz i 4got some words..^_^'''
But back to Prof Leong..think he only can choreograph chinese dances..coz that time Mr michael tay invited him to choreograph the opening dance for Aristal..then that Prof Leong came up with some shit dance..(which is why me and the other j2 chinese dance guys didn't dance for opening instead..)..REally pissed alot of us off..and michael tay in the end had to come up with a new dance all by himself...Cheers to mr tay!
Then again..i thought of the times i spent in the dance troupe from december 2001 to January 2003..almost 2 yrs..very memorable time i spent there learning the basics of dance..i must thank mr Henry ng and mr Benedict Soh for their guidance..coz if not for them, I'll never be as good as the dancer i am now..especially mr ng..who kept compromising me coz he knew that i'm poor (literally) and gave me time to improve on my studies..I haven't realli say a good thank you to him..since they left RV dance..(coz i injure myself on the day of their resignation..Haiz~). Those are very long stories..(Refer to November 29 2003)
I also thought of the days when i was involved in their inaugural dance performance "Dance, What Dance?"..It seems like only months ago..when i was with marvin,jiale and gang dancing "ye ren" (wild tribemen)..haiz~some feeling when i see their performance 4 years later..Juz like the poem "huang he lou" (Yellow Crane Tower)...
It was strange that Yeeshiang asked this gal named phoebe(j1 western dancer) to come along..and i guessed something is fishy..lol..guess i'll know soon in the near future..
