<2003..sometime in early June..>
The SARS virus had deprived me of school for almost a whole month...and i had such a long break that i began to doubt myself..
"Am i still fully fit...for the big event?"
We had only 1 month of preparation for the 'big event' after sch reopens..but months of tireless and never-ending practice since Nov 02 should have well prepared me for it..SHOULD..
This wasn't the 1st time tt i stepped on the stage in ACS Barker...or in fact...kneeling...if tt was the appropriate term to use..
But i still felt scared...even though i had performed onstage for quite a number of times...Still,my mind was in a whirl...
"When will the music start?"
"What a small stage.."
"Itz so cold here..."
"Can someone turn the aircon off?"
"Is anyone watching from the seats..?"
"How many people are there..?"
"Shit...is my leg going to cramp again?!"
"Arggh..why is it taking so long..??!!"
Then, like a sudden jolt of lightning that struck through my heart, body and soul...The music began..And all forms of emotions disappeared away from me...
'Juz noe tt i have to dance...Forget everything else..juz concentrate on the dance..like what sulao and huanglao have said b4..."Once the music begins, forget everything else..juz concentrate on the dance..."'
'Happy Valley'...by Vanessa Mae...a music piece that was written to celebrate the return of Hong Kong to China..after a hundred years of British colonial rule...was transformed into "Fervent Beat of my Homeland"...the very dance that i had practised for hundreds of days...and had heard hundreds of times...
I danced freely!
What a wonderful experience to dance onstage!
Can u believe a person can really fly when he/she is dancing?
Me and my friends...seniors and juniors...boys and gals...worked 2gether beautifully to create an enthralling piece of contemporary chinese art!
And the dance was over...i was gasping for air..
How tiring! But how satisfying! I hoped my front flip wasn't tt bad..
Then like a loud clap of thunder..came the applause...and i knew this was a success!
Even thou the SYF Central Judging was still at least 1 and a half mths away..this pre-selection performance had enabled us to successfully enter the SYF Closing Night 2003...
'And i'm looking 4ward to it..'
